Buyers expressed mixed views about a new app which allows travellers to book a hotel at the last minute.
Charlie Osmond, from hotel review website Triptease, highlighted a new app called Hotels Tonight which only allows bookings to be made from noon for that night’s accommodation.
“It only shows 10 hotels for the location and makes it really simple to book a hotel at the last minute,” said Osmond. “They can usually get a discount for distressed stock from the hotels.”
While buyers could see the appeal of Hotels Tonight for leisure travel they were sceptical about its application to corporate travellers.
Andrew Quinn, travel buyer for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said: “What happens if something goes wrong? You have to know where your travellers are staying. I can see why last-minute hotel booking is quite appealing for leisure travellers but it’s not appealing to me as a buyer.
“We have got to run the business first rather than allowing everybody to do what they want.”
