Amazon has launched a new hotel-booking service featuring around 150 properties in three US regions.
Amazon Destinations will to begin with focus on properties in 'adventure travel' areas in the Pacific Northwest, California and the northeast of the US.
The service will work directly with hoteliers and offer rooms and at their published rates or discounted prices. Amazon hasn’t disclosed how much commission it would charge but said it would be “competitive” compared to other OTAs.
The site mainly focuses on independent hotels with a spokesman saying the service will focus on the short getaway market.
"These are all handpicked properties that have been visited by someone at Amazon to make sure they meet our quality," a spokersperson said.
Amazon Destinations which will work with hoteliers directly will differ from Amazon Local which has featured discounted deals over the past couple of years.
