Room-sharing platform Airbnb has purchased Accomable, a service that helps disabled travellers find accessible accommodation.
Airbnb says the Accomable site will be wound down over the coming months and its listings in more than 60 countries will be integrated into the Airbnb service. All listings include step-free access and detailed information about the properties’ accessibility adaptations.
Founder Srin Madipalli, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, will join the Airbnb team to aid the company in making accommodation accessible. As part of the integration, the site has introduced new features, including accessibility checklists for hosts.
Airbnb says it is also working on making its own services more accessible, including its website and apps.
Accomable was included in our 2017 BBT Hotlist as a company to watch.
