VisitBerlin, the city’s tourism and convention marketing body, has introduced an online resource to help travel managers organise green meetings and events in the German capital.
The Sustainable Event Guidelines Berlin lists hotels, locations, and service providers that are certified sustainable and includes a 65-step roadmap to help organisers save resources and energy.
Sustainable steps include low-carbon commuting options, regional foods for the catering, and energy-friendly technology. These measures are grouped into three levels, with performance indicators to measure effectiveness.
“As an industry we have set off together on the road to making Berlin one of the most innovative, sustainable and reliable event destinations,” said VisitBerlin conventions director Marco Oelschlegel.
The organisation said the framework was created in accordance with the Suitable Event Organisation Guidelines of the German Environment Agency and international standards such as ISO 20121 for sustainable event management, as well as feedback from event organisers and sustainability experts.
