On Friday, the FAA ordered U.S. carriers to avoid Iranian airspace over the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman amid "heightened military activities and increased political tensions." United Airlines already had suspended through Sunday its service between Newark and Mumbai, which crosses Iranian airspace. A spokesperson said the carrier "will continue to monitor the situation as we move through the weekend." Several carriers outside the U.S. also are rerouting flights to avoid the area, according to Reuters, including Lufthansa, British Airways, KLM, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Malaysia Airlines.
