EASYJET is to cease its Gatwick ” Zurich service from the end of the winter season on 27 March. The airline says that the previously profitable route has been impacted by a 132% increase in passenger fees at Zurich in only two years ” including an increase of over 60% in the last few months. This is on top of onerous operating restrictions imposed on airlines over-flying southern Germany and a strict curfew. The airline will now use its Gatwick slots for another service. The route from Luton to Zurich is unaffected. EasyJet is also introducing a daily service from Newcastle airport to Palma (Mallorca) from 17 May and plans a twice-daily service from Paris Orly to Berlin Schoenefeld, and a daily service from Paris Orly to Naples from 18 May.
