EASYJET claims to have made history last Wednesday evening when every passenger on a flight to Prague from East Midlands International Airport, including those with hold baggage, used the self-check-in kiosks rather than the traditional check-in process. This included a total of 112 items of hold baggage that were issued with standard airline-industry bag tags. The flight departed on schedule. The airline ultimately wants to see kiosk-only check-in for every service at every airport, a major saving in costs. The Department for Transport-approved trials will continue before hopefully rolling-out the programme to other points on the network. In another move easyJet is again going out into the market place and asking airports all over Europe to offer themselves to the airline. They need to self-select, according to a set of criteria, including whether they can support 20-minute aircraft turnarounds. Last summer easyJet launched an identical campaign, to which 83 airports responded resulting in Berlin, Dortmund, Basel, Cologne, Budapest and Ljubljana joining the network.
