BMI has taken delivery of the first of six Airbus A319 aircraft in a move towards a short haul single aircraft fleet type. The Airbus A319s will be phased in primarily to replace existing Fokker 100 operations. The aircraft are configured with a maximum of 130 seats in a flexible business/economy cabin. By next summer the airline will be operating an all Airbus fleet of 28 aircraft both in its long haul and short haul mainline operations. By summer 2005 bmi will be operating three A330, eight A321, 11 A320 and six A319 aircraft. The bmi fleet of Boeing 737s has already been transferred to bmibaby. bmi regional operates a fleet of 11 Embraer jets on domestic and European routes.
