BMI BRITISH MIDLAND is now owned only 50% plus one share by BBW partnership, the holding company controlled by Sir Michael Bishop, BMi chairman. Last week Lufthansa raised its stake to 30%, minus the one share, with SAS holding the 20% balance. In a separate move BMi is to suspend its Manchester ” Washington Airbus A330 operation from 2 December, and plans to bring it back in June next year. In the meantime the aircraft and its flight deck crew have been contracted out to South African Airways. BMi says the Manchester ” Chicago service is going exceptionally well.
