BMI has celebrated the third anniversary of its Manchester - based transatlantic operation building up an excellent reputation in a niche market. Over this period some 620,000 passengers have used the services to Chicago, Washington and more recently Toronto. Next winter the airline will fly direct from Manchester to Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia. Chicago is currently operating at a 91% load factor, Washington at 84% with the Toronto flights very quickly establishing themselves. bmi operate Airbus A330 equipment configured with 24 in business class, 48 new economy, 172 economy. Sir Michael Bishop says that their Manchester operation has proved to be an excellent precursor to ”when” the airline establishes North American operations from Heathrow.
