The low-fare Central and Eastern European airline Wizz Air will introduce three-weekly services from Katowice in Poland to Belfast, Eindhoven, Bournemouth and Coventry. There are also plans for a weekly service to both Bourgas in Bulgaria and Crete/Heraklion, also flying from Katowice.
The schedule for the new routes will be staggered. Belfast and Eindhoven flights will begin on May 29, flights to Bourgas and Crete June 2, and finally those to Bournemouth and Coventry on July 14 and 18 respectively.
To accommodate the new services Wizz Air will deploy new Airbus A320s, the first of which is to be delivered in May 2007 to Katowice airport.
Wizz Air chief executive J”sef V”radi made the following comment on the airline”s expansion: ”Wizz Air”s expansion in Katowice is a strategic next step in our overall growth plan in Poland. Southern Poland remains a key market for us as we are bringing in the fourth aircraft, increasing frequencies, adding more new destinations and hiring more people from the region.”
