Wizz Air has won overwhelming backing from its shareholders for the purchase of 10 Airbus A321ceo aircraft.
The Budapest-based low-cost carrier’s aircraft order was backed by 99.96 per cent of its voting shareholders at a general meeting in Geneva.
Wizz’s latest order with Airbus was announced in June and is part of expansion plans that will also see the delivery of 110 new A321neo aircraft from 2019.
Jozsef Varadi, Wizz Air’s CEO, said: “We are delighted to confirm the approval of our shareholders of this important transaction.
“The new A321 aircraft will continue to feed into our ultra-low cost base through double-digit cost savings, giving us a clear cost advantage over our competitors.
“Our continued investment in our growing fleet means that Wizz Air is best placed to respond to the significant growth opportunities in the CEE (Central & Eastern Europe) and in turn create value for our shareholders.”
Wizz Air’s fleet currently consists of 83 Airbus A320s and A321s and it is due to take delivery of 140 new aircraft up to 2024.
