Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is to start its first flights from Gatwick in June.
Wizz will operate a daily flight from the Sussex airport to Bucharest from June 18. It will be the first direct service between Gatwick and the Romanian capital.
Gatwick will become Wizz’s ninth UK airport offering a total of 76 routes from the UK to 14 countries. Wizz already flies between Luton and Bucharest three times per day.
Owain Jones, Wizz’s chief corporate officer, said: “With our new Gatwick service starting in June, we offer four flights a day between London and Bucharest from two airports and we are the only airline to have direct service to Bucharest every day from both north and south London.”
Guy Stephenson, Gatwick’s chief commercial officer, added: “We are delighted to welcome Wizz Air to Gatwick as they launch the only direct connection from the airport to the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
“The daily flights will be attractive to passengers travelling on both leisure and those flying on business who may be taking advantage of Romania’s continued economic growth."
