WIZZ AIR, registered in London but essentially a central European (Hungarian), airline, is to purchase 12 Airbus A320 family aircraft, both A319s and A320s. The airline, which made its first flight in May 2004, launched itself using leased A320s and says the success of the aircraft is the main reason for now ordering new equipment under its own name and enlarging the fleet. All the ”planes will be powered by International Aero Engines V2500-A5s and configured up to 156 passengers in the A319s and 180 in the A320s. Deliveries will begin in the summer of 2007, allowing the airline to open up new European routes from its present base airports (Budapest in Hungary and Katowice, Warsaw and Gdansk in Poland), as well as new bases in Eastern Europe. Since its launch Wizz Air has carried 1.9m passengers.
