Budget carrier Wizz Air is expanding at London Luton after gaining another two daily slot pairs at the UK airport.
Wizz, which is expanding rapidly this summer, has acquired its latest slots at Luton from Spanish carrier Vueling. The move comes just days after the airline opened its fourth UK base at Cardiff airport.
The Hungary-based carrier is planning to use the extra Luton slots to increase frequencies on six routes to Romania and Poland starting in May and June.
Services will increase to Craiova, Sibiu, Bacau, Iasi and Timisoara in Romania, as well as the Polish city of Wroclaw.
Wizz said the extra slots will allow it to offer 5.6 million seats across 75 destinations from Luton during summer 2022.
Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said the move showed its “continued commitment” to Luton, which was its first base in the UK.
“2022 is off to a great start, especially with the lifting of Covid-19 travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers,” she added.
According to aviation data specialist OAG, Wizz Air is the fastest growing major airline in Europe and is offering 44 per cent more seats during summer 2022 than it did in summer 2019.
