LUTON AIRPORT is preparing for the winter and hopefully this year will not get caught out with snow as it was in early 2004. With long term forecasters predicting one of the coldest British winters in recent memory the airport has purchased four JCB Fastrac tractors to assist in anti-icing and snow clearing operations. Each of the Fastracs features a 5.9 litre, 12 valve turbocharged engine giving a top speed of 50 mph. Snowploughs can be attached to the front and a sprayer fitted to the rear hitch for anti-icing operations. These versatile tractors can even be used for grass cutting duties, keeping them busy whatever the season.
