Westjet reveals new business class

By Molly Dyson / 10 May 2018 / Contact Reporter
Business Travel News on X

Canadian low-cost carrier Westjet has unveiled design plans for its new fleet of B787-9 Dreamliners, including its first-ever business class cabin and a resdesigned livery.

The ten aircraft are due for delivery in early 2019 and will be configured with three cabin classes, with business, premium economy and economy seats. Interiors will feature a new colour palette inspired by Canada’s natural environment, including blues in economy, aurora-inspired tones in premium economy and earth tones in business.

Business class seats will feature lie-flat seats, 18-inch touch screens with seat adjustment controls and consoles for storage, as well as in-seat power. Passengers will be offered a turn-down service, on-demand dining, in-flight entertainment and connectivity.

Premium economy seats will offer extra legroom with a 38-inch pitch and a two-three-two configuration, in-seat power and 13-inch touch screens for in-flight entertainment. The cabin also features premium menu offerings and a walk-up, self-serve social area with snacks and drinks.

Unlike some airlines that are fitting more seats into the economy cabin, Westjet’s new aircraft will feature a three-three-three configuration. Seats offer up to 35-inch pitch, 12-inch touch screens and in-seat power.

The aircraft’s new livery features an updated logo in a new font and maintains the Canadian maple leaf symbol with a new, contemporary design. The Canadian flag will feature at the front of the aircraft and the tagline “The Spirit of Canada” in both English and French – the country’s two national languages.

Westjet says the new livery will gradually appear across its entire fleet as new aircraft are delivered throughout 2018 and as existing planes are repainted.

The airline is preparing to embark on its first flights to mainland Europe, with a new service between Halifax Stanfield International airport in Nova Scotia and Paris Charles de Gaulle starting 31 May.
