VULCAN watchers might be in for some good news. By that we don”t mean viewers of the legendary Star Trek. The Vulcan To the Sky Trust has been awarded a Heritage Grant of ”2.75m towards the cost of putting Avro Vulcan XH558 into the air. The Trust has still to raise half a million sterling but is confident that the target will be met. The amazing delta wing Vulcan, last of Britain”s V bomber fleet (the Vickers Valiant and Handley Page Victor the other two aircraft), flew its first and last war mission when bombing Port Stanley during the Falklands War. The plan is to have the single remaining flyable aircraft available for summer 2005 airshows.
