VIRGIN has selected dual bases for its new US-based low-cost arm with the airline to have an operational base in San Francisco but its corporate headquarters in Manhattan in the heart of New York. Further to the late breaking news in the last edition of ABTN, Virgin has confirmed that the two cities offered good incentives to help it proceed with its plans to create a new low-cost operation in the USA and create around 3,000 new jobs in the country over the next five years. Although there has been much speculation over the past month that Virgin will shortly place a large order for Airbus short-haul models for the as-yet unnamed airline, no formal decision has yet been announced. The new carrier is expected to launch operations in the spring of next year.
