VIRGIN BLUE was to hold a press conference at Brisbane Airport during the early hours of Monday morning (UK time).
Hosted by Sir Richard Branson, his partner in the venture down under Chris Corrigan, managing director Patrick Corporation, the Australian transport group, and Brett Godfrey, founding chief executive officer Virgin Blue, a prospectus on the airline's floatation was expected to be announced.
The airline, which made its first flight in August 2000, now has a fleet of 40 Boeing 737 series aircraft and could make £60m in the current financial year.
A major contributor to the Virgin success was the collapse of Rod Eddington's former operation Ansett within six months of its launch.
Sir Richard could make £100m under the deal. He is certainly no longer ”a virgin in business” back in 1970 Branson's rationale behind the then outspoken name.
