VLM has released figures which really do show the value of operating out of a small high profile airport in terms frequency and timekeeping. The airline has now gone up to ten return flights a day between Manchester and London City offering the ubiquitous turboprop Fokker 50, virtually one an hour. Clearly propellers do not put people off. In terms of timekeeping 95% of flight arrivals and departures were within 15 minutes of their scheduled time during August, with an average delay of only two minutes! VLM has the advantage of virtually no taxiing required at London City and dedicated commuter stands at Manchester. The airline says its new five times daily LCY ” Liverpool service is also setting new standards for good timekeeping. Scot Airways, another LCY tenant, tells ABTN that they are on 85% for flights between the airport and Edinburgh, easily the best performance between London and the Scottish capital. Rivals BA CitiExpress could only achieve 72%, worse than BA mainline at Heathrow. Scot Airways offers nine daily Dornier 328 propjet return flights daily whilst BA has three services operating an Avro RJ100.
