The
German Business Travel Association
(VDR) says the country's government should not impose further bans on travellers
coming from certain high-risk areas for coronavirus and instead expand airport
testing facilities.
VDR
president Christoph Carnier said, “Business trips are the basis for current and
future business and the backbone of entire economic sectors. German
companies have already reduced their business travel activities to an absolute
minimum, but work-related trips at home and abroad remain an essential part of business
activities for many industries. Necessary business trips, for example to
commission or maintain technical systems, must continue to be possible. Otherwise
the already battered economy will suffer further damage.”
The
VDR says the expansion of Covid rapid test capacities at airports, for example,
could reduce the risk of further spread of the coronavirus without further
complicating business trips with additional restrictions.
Germany added a further 25 countries to its high-risk list last week.
