UNITED AIRLINES, as things stand the only US airline with non-stop services from the US to China, is to further strengthen its position with a daily service from Chicago to Shanghai. It already flies between Chicago and Beijing, and from San Francisco to both mainland cities. However on the business front the scene does not look so rosy, with the airline, struggling under Chapter 11 bankruptcy, failing to gain a much needed $1.6bn Federal loan guarantee. The Air Transportation Stabilization Board did leave the door ajar with a comment that the deal could be reconsidered. As things stand UA has until 30 July to organise its own emergence from bankruptcy under orders handed down by a US bankruptcy court in Chicago.
