Rome Fiumicino Airport is to become the latest destination in United Airlines” ever developing international route network when the airline opens a daily service from Washington-Dulles on 2 April 2007 (subject to government approval).
The route will be flown by a Boeing 777 configured with 10 United First Suite seats, 45 business class, and 198 economy, of which 84 are Economy Plus. Flight time will be less than 10 hours and will be the only direct service between the two capitals. In Europe United also serves Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Munich, Paris, and Zurich non-stop from Washington. The airline will also offer cargo capacity.
United Airlines managing director of sales Europe, Middle East, Africa and India, Marcel Fuchs said: "The strong commercial and tourism links between Italy and the United States are longstanding. We are pleased to launch a route that will serve business, leisure and cargo customers, further demonstrating our commitment to expanding our global and European network.”
By this autumn, United Airlines will have increased its international and US domestic service for business and leisure travellers to and from Washington-Dulles by 39 new flights. This represents an approximate 14% increase in departures compared to autumn last year. United offers connections to more than 90 destinations from its Washington-Dulles hub.
