US VISITORS concerned at what they might expect when they finally reach immigration control at American gateway airports will be relieved to learn that the authorities have now relented and will not require biometric reading of passports until October 2005. Until then the current machine readable UK/European passport will be OK. However if you need a full visa, for whatever reasons, the US Embassy in London will now take your fingerprints unless you are under 14 or over 80 when they can be sent by post.
