US AIRWAYS has slid back into Chapter 11 court approved voluntary administration after failing to come to an arrangement with its pilot unions regarding future pension rights. Initially this does not seem to have affected flights or business but clearly potential passengers will be asking questions when paying in advance for travel. This is the airline”s second brush with bankruptcy having first sought protection in August 2002 and emerging, clearly too early, in March 2003 backed by a US government $900m Air Transport Stabilization Board loan, which is now likely to be lost.
