UK AIRPORTS could be in a state of limbo again after pressure groups successfully won permission for a judicial review of the Government”s expansion plans published last December. At some point, possibly in October, the whole matter will again go to the High Court where it will be argued that the White Paper was fundamentally flawed and broke the Government”s rules on conducting consultations. A previous High Court action resulted in Gatwick being made part of the review causing an eight month delay. Should yet another delay occur the consequences for the airports (and airlines) could be serious. As it is, a degree of uncertainly will now exist. Interestingly the lobbyists could find themselves opposed by other parties (such as the anti-Thames estuary groups) who had thought they had won their battles.
