AIRPORT SECURITY continues to make news with two different approaches being announced last week. In the US the Transport Security Administration has announced a project, initially on line at Minneapolis-St Paul from July, at which ”Registered Travellers” can Fastrack outbound security using government issued ID cards. Four other airports will be quickly added and the scheme could be available nationwide for 2005. In order to qualify you will need to fly at least once a week and be a member of a frequent flyers programme. In the UK the idea is to try and reduce the queues for non-EU nationals at immigration. Here the five busiest airports are to install iris recognition technology for "specially selected" non-EU nationals who volunteer to join the scheme. It is hoped to have it up and running by early next year.
