TUNINTER, the regional division of Tunisair, lost one of its two ATR 72s on Sunday 7 August when the aircraft ditched in the sea eight miles north of Palermo, Sicily. It was on its way from Bari to theTunisian resort island of Djerba. There were 39 passengers and crew on the aircraft of which 23 survived. The aircraft itself had been built in 1992 and had a total flight time of 30,000 hours. Initial reports have confirmed both engines cutting out which would indicate a fuel problem but a more detailed analysis will have to wait until the Italian and French authorities have made a full inspection of the wreckage.
