FLYBLU was launched at the Daily Telegraph Destinations 2004 Travel Show NEC Birmingham last Friday. The airline plans to operate scheduled flights this coming summer to Sanford and Fort Lauderdale, on Florida”s east coast, plus St. Petersburg/Clearwater on the Gulf of Mexico side. None of the airports have scheduled services to the UK or are considered gateways but the airline sees no problems with the bilateral, which essentially concerns Heathrow access. To put it all in perspective FLL has twice the passenger throughput of BHX. Flyblu will initially use a pair of Boeing 767-300ER for the flights, and in an innovative move will offer a two class layout, economy, called silver class featuring 2 + 3 + 2 and 38” legroom, as much as business class used to offer in times gone by. The airline says an AoC is being sought. CEO is Aden Murcutt, (seen here at the show with stewardess Joanne Kelly) a Midlands businessman and MD of the RapidCare home delivery home supply business. MD Allan Fullilove”s background includes spells at Monarch and British Midland, whilst financial director Stuart Carson”s airline experience takes in British Airways, Air UK and Jersey European.
