Portuguese airline TAP has introduced new fares for intercontinental flights, which include hand-baggage only for long-haul.
The airline said the new branded fare structure is aimed at giving passenger more choice when purchasing tickets.
There are four fare options available for travel in Economy and two in Business. Passengers that choose to travel with only carry-on can purchase the Discount fare which offers the most competitive pricing.
Those that travel with one checked bag will be able to select the Basic fare, while those who travel with two checked bags and want to pre-assign their seat can select a Classic fare.
The new Plus fare allowed up to three checked bags, pre-assigned seating towards the front of the aircraft, priority check-in and flexibility in making changes to reservations.
TAP said the change in fare structure means a passenger that purchases a Basic Lisbon-JFK fare could benefit from discounts of up to 19 per cent, compared to the same fare purchased before the changes.
In business class there are two fare options – Executive, including two pieces of luggage (up to 32kg each), lounge access and priority boarding, and the fully-flexible Top Executive, offering three pieces of luggage.
