BRAZILIAN airline TAM has confirmed (see ABTN 24 April) the
introduction of daily non-stop Airbus A330 services from Heathrow to
Sao Paulo for the winter schedule. An afternoon arrival and evening
departure slot has been secured. Currently BA flies daily to Sao
Paulo (with three flights going on to Rio, the other four terminating
at Buenos Aires) with Varig on a similar schedule but question marks
hang over the Brazilian national carrier. TAM has now around 50% of
the local market, but much can happen before October.
