SWISS INTERNATIONAL, Switzerland”s national airline, has reported a first quarter loss of USD155.3m, dangerously high according to a number of critics around the world. The airline accepts the status quo and says it is cutting back on both aircraft and jobs. The carrier, which was controversially formed from the ashes of failed Swissair, has already targeted substantial reductions. Where the next round is likely to come from is unclear. A Swiss newspaper cited unnamed sources within the airline as saying that 3,000 jobs are at risk and the carrier's fleet may be slashed. Swiss is not running like clockwork.
