SWISS EUROPEAN has been created, or as one wag put it, ”a reincarnation of Crossair without the selling ability”. Swiss International Airlines will take off towards the end of the year as "Swiss European Air Lines". It will be a separate unit of the Swiss Group, trading under the brand but not selling the product. It will be a ”wet lease” operator only, commercial responsibility remaining with Swiss. Swiss European will start out with a fleet of seven Embraer 145s and 18 Avro RJ85/100s, but will subsequently operate with a uniform fleet of 24 Avro RJ85/100s, once the 2006 summer timetable comes into effect. Swiss International will initially provide the cabin crews. In the medium-term, Swiss European will recruit its own cabin staff and build up its own workforce. Swiss is part of the Lufthansa Group.
