COVENTRY AIRPORT has quickly established itself amongst the top echelons of British airports overtaking such long established operations such as Exeter, Humberside and Norwich. Figures published by the CAA for 2004 show that 462,000 passengers used the new passenger facility (approx 625,000 for a full year) and that actual aircraft movements dropped due to the policy of airport owner Tui discouraging its use by (noisy) piston engine aircraft. In a move that must have been welcomed by villagers at Baginton the airport has won the right to use long term parking facilities by the terminal but this must be pre-booked. Normal, pay on the day, facilities have been moved to a site in Rowley Road which borders the north west of the airport and is very easily reached from the A45 London Road. Traffic now no longer has to go through Baginton. In the meantime the public enquiry into the terminal building and airport use (expensively) continues and is not likely to finish until mid-July.
