STRASBOURG was the scene of another Ryanair legal defeat last week (see also Ryanair above, regarding D”sseldorf) where a funding package organized by the local chamber of commerce was deemed illegal. It seems that the Bas-Rhin Chamber of Commerce, who manage the airport, agreed to fund Ryanair to ”560,000 per year to buy advertising space to publicise two daily flights between Stansted and one of Europe”s two seats of parliament. The argument was that the money was being used in a reasonable way to promote the capital of the Alsace region. Air France saw it as an illegal subsidy which distorted the market. One thing for sure Ryanair has certainly attracted many more tourists to the region. http://www.ryaniar.com
