STAR ALLIANCE has a new provisional member in the form of US Airways, based in Arlington, Va, the largest carrier in the eastern United States and the seventh largest in the country. Its operations are concentrated in its hubs in Charlotte, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. United Airlines, based in Chicago, is also a member. This is the first time that Star Alliance has allowed two independent airlines from one country to be a member. US Airways has more than 3,300 daily departures to cities in the USA, Canada and Europe, and flies to more destinations in the Caribbean than any other US airline. Full membership is expected later this year. http://www.staralliance.com
