STANSTED might become the world”s busiest international airport in terms of individual terminals if its growth continues at the current rate according to figures released by BAA. The airport is now running at 20m annual passengers. By 2006 this could be nearly 25m assuming that passengers are not attracted to a whole series of new routes from the more accessible Luton. Whilst it could be argued that airports such as Amsterdam are a single (but in fact divided in various sectors) building Heathrow Terminal 1 moved 23.5m passengers last year (with T2 8.8m, T3 17.3m and T4 13.9) putting it in number one place. As far as single airports are concerned Heathrow remains in pre-eminence at 63.5m passengers.
