Stansted has posted its highest post-recession annual total for passenger numbers.
The airport’s 12 month rolling total is 23.2 million and last month posted a 2.7 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2015.
The airport’s owner Manchester Airports Group (MAG) announced increases at all its other three airports – East Midlands (+5.1%), Bournemouth (+6.5%) and Manchester (+11.4%).
Ken O’Toole, CEO, Manchester airport, said: “It’s been another strong month for growth and it sets the tone for what we hope will be a record summer for Manchester Airport.
“It is pleasing to see the airport play such a positive role in driving the visitor economy of the North West in this way.
“With 22 million people in our catchment area we continue to offer passengers a wealth of destinations and options to suit every traveller,” he added.
