USA major airlines have seen some significant departures over the last week or so. Out from struggling Delta goes Michele Burns, executive vice president and chief financial officer since 1999. She has joined Mirant Corporation of Atlanta as executive vice president and chief financial officer, to lead the company”s financial restructuring. She is replaced by Michael Palumbo previously a consultant with Airline Financial Services in New York. And as long predicted David N. Siegel President and Chief Executive Officer of US Airways has resigned replaced by Bruce R. Lakefield, chairman of the board of directors” finance and strategy, and human resources committees. Siegel, who had previously been involved with Northwest, joined US Airways in March 2002 from Avis. Whilst he had been praised for taking US Airways out of Chapter 11, he had also been criticised in some quarters for acting too quickly with the loss making airline.
