Luton airport has been sold to a consortium headed by Spanish airport operator Aena.
Current owner Abertis has sold the Bedfordshire airport in a deal worth £433 million in the latest sale of the group’s airports - Abertis last week sold Belfast International airport to ADC & HAS Airports Worldwide and sold Cardiff airport last year.
Abertis has been running Luton airport on behalf of Luton Borough Council since 2005 when it purchased UK airport operator TBI.
The company said that the Luton sale was part of its “strategy to continually revise its portfolio in order to optimise the company's asset base”.
Luton’s new operator is a consortium consisting of Aena (51 per cent) and AXA Private Equity (49 per cent).
Easyjet is the airport's biggest carrier with 15 aircraft based at Luton serving 38 destinations. The airline also has its headquarters next to the airport's terminal building.
