SOUTHAMPTON AIRPORT is set for another boom year following the record 2003 when it comfortably outperformed the other BAA-owned airports, handling 1.2m passengers, plus 54%. Last December over 100,400 passengers passed through, 81% up on the previous year. Much of this growth has been attributable to FlyBE”s creation of a low fares base at Southampton from March last year and its launch of new, predominantly leisure routes. FlyBE will launch a further three French routes ” Limoges, Perpignon and La Rochelle in April and with Glasgow following in September, the airline will have an 18-strong route network from Southampton. With the exception of FlyBE the Hampshire airport”s scheduled programme for 2004 is likely to be much the same as 2003.
