BREAKING NEWS: SONG, the low-cost Delta airline, will cease operations next May. The decision to shut down the airline after just three years was taken by parent Delta, currently in Chapter 11, as it attempts to focus on core operations and more profitable routes. Rival budget airline JetBlue will be the biggest beneficiary as it competed on several Song routes and was seen as a model for the Delta carrier. However, while JetBlue operates versatile Airbus A320s, Song struggled to make its Boeing 757 operation profitable. The news came in the same week that Song informed us of exciting new additions to its inflight catering. Guess the cranberry nut bread (what?) smothered with cranberry relish and loaded with thinly sliced, smoked turkey breast, cheddar cheese and fresh lettuce will just have to stay in the fridge.
