SMOKERS INTERNATIONAL AIRWAYS, or Smintair for short, a new German
carrier, has been announced and plans to begin daily services between
Dusseldorf and Tokyo on 27 March 2007. It calls itself a luxury
airline and says the route is aimed at the notoriously
nicotine-addicted Japanese businessmen. Somewhat incredulously its
website states ”By the way, did you know that the Nazis also sported a
huge anti-smoking campaign? Yes, they did and the one we experience
now carries exactly the same insignia”. The airline intends to use
Boeing 747s for the operation with Lufthansa technical backup.
Smintair says that the famous 747 bubble will only serve as a lounge,
all passengers, that is first and business class, seated on the main
deck.
