BIRMINGHAM now has competition on the Stockholm route with Swedish airline Skyways introducing a service last Sunday, which offers twice daily flights on weekdays and once on Sundays. Embraer EMB 145 jets with 48 seats are used. Skyways flies to more cities in Sweden than any other airline and currently operate 31 aircraft on 11 international and 18 domestic routes. The airline carried over 1.3m passengers in 2003. The airline co-ordinates its timetable with that of SAS to offer passengers an even wider network of connection opportunities covering the whole of Scandinavia, Finland and the Baltic countries. Duo, formerly Maersk, also operates to Stockholm offering a twice weekdaily service but with the 2 + 2 seating Bombardier RJ as against the narrower 1 + 2 Embraer.
