BOEING CONNEXION has made an important breakthrough with its airborne Internet services announcing that Singapore Airlines (SIA) is to standardise on the system for its long-haul fleet. SIA will achieve a world”s first in 2005 when it brings live international TV on board, beamed through Connexion to passengers” laptops. SIA plans to initially offer the Connexion by Boeing service on its Singapore-London route in the first quarter of next year and eventually expand the capability to selected flights worldwide. The channel line up will initially include four international news channels, with sports content to be added at a later date. ABTN has already reported on Connexion (see ”Internet in the Sky” ” 27 January 2003) and its virtues. SIA plan a flat rate pricing option with unlimited access for US$29.95 for long-haul flights (more than six hours); US$19.95 for medium-haul flights (between three and six hours); and US$14.95 for flights less than three hours plus a metered pricing range for those whose use is mainly messaging.
