SCOTAIRWAYS celebrated last week 20 years of calling itself ”Britain”s
smallest proper airline”. That could possibly be challenged but the
former Suckling Airways has not changed much over the last decade. No
new aircraft and no new routes. But it is a real success story, still
run by husband and wife team Roy and Merlin Suckling. This year the
airline, which now has the backing as a majority shareholder of Brian
Souter of Stagecoach, will transport 230,000 passengers on a route
network that links Southampton with Amsterdam four times daily (plus
reduced frequencies at weekends); London City to Edinburgh (nine times
daily) and London City to Dundee (four times daily), all with a
dedicated fleet of seven Dornier 328 aircraft. ScotAirways Merlyn
