RYANAIR, king of the Blarney, has issued a press release to the effect that it is investing $240m in Shannon in the next 12 months. This story is brought to you by the airline that flies to Girona (or as they say Barcelona) and to Torp (which according to the Dublin based carrier is really Oslo, some 60 miles away). The airline is expanding from SNN with three new destinations (not six as per the press release. FR has from time to time over the years served Gatwick, Luton and Stansted from Shannon) as well as eight airports in mainland Europe. How the airline manages to value the funding to the extent it has done has been challenged by authoritive voices. The airline says it is investing into Prestwick, also attracting money from various official Scottish sources.
