RYANAIR will suspend its route between Stansted and Strasbourg on 24 September and start up to Baden Baden in Germany the next day, after failing to get assurances from the French Appeal Court over a commercial deal it has with the airport authority and the city's Chamber of Commerce. Last month, a court upheld complaints against Ryanair and stopped the airline accepting local subsidies to underpin its services to Strasbourg. The carrier has since appealed the decision and asked for a stay of the court judgment. There are suggestions that as many as 19 other destinations on continental Europe could be affected by the decision. A number of UK airports are also thought to be offering questionable incentives to Ryanair to operate services. There is a great deal of evidence which demonstrate that promotional and financial encouragement does increase passenger traffic at airports, often dramatically, with benefits all round. http://www.ryanair.com
