ROYAL JORDANIAN Airlines, a current exclusive Airbus operator, has given US manufacturer Boeing a major boost by selecting the Next-Generation 737 family for its future short-haul expansion. The Amman-based carrier has agreed in principle to acquire ten aircraft (believed to be a mix of B737-700s and -800s) with five aircraft being sourced through capital leases and five through operational leases. The new aircraft will be delivered over a three year period from September 2005 and will directly replace Airbus A310 and A320 models currently utilised on short- and medium-haul services throughout the Gulf region and into North Africa and Europe.
